Building a connection to God’s story through our daily lives

Step 1: Where are You? (Character)

Each person is the central character in their life. We each play a role and have aims we seek to achieve. That is why the central question that should be asked often is, “where are you?” It’s another way of expressing where each person is in their journey. It helps them to articulate their current mood, circumstance, or experience in life.

You can begin to pinpoint where you are by reflecting on your mindset.

HAPPY - SAD - AFRAID - DISGUST - ANGER - LONELINESS - RELIEF - ANXIOUS - PEACE

Step 2: What Happened? (Conflict)

No story is complete without conflict or tension. There must be some pain or discomfort that is pushing us along in life. We want to help identify what that pain point is.

What encounters or situations took place that led to your current state:

As a result what story are you telling yourself

HAPPY - SAD - AFRAID - DISGUST - ANGER

Step 3: What Does Jesus Say? (Christ)

In order to move forward in the story we want to recall our ultimate dream and aspiration so that they shape our decisions and habits. For us as disciples, we want to become just like Jesus so we need to see our story, through his story. That’s why we ask What does Jesus say?

Me - Happy

Jesus

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with your joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. - Psalm 16:11

Sad

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit. - Psalm 34:17-18

Afraid

For I am the Lord your God, who holds your right hand, who says to you, “Do not fear, I will help you. - Isaiah 41: 13

Angry

Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. - James 1:12

Disgust

Finally, all of you be like minded and sympathetic, love one another, and be compassionate and humble 1 Peter 3:8

Connecting our life to the story of scripture helps us to live in the grand story that God is writing through us.

What counter action is needed?
