5 Ways to Stay Unshaken When Your Faith is Gutted

Amaya sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the wall.

She couldn't believe what her mother had just told her.

She was leaving her father.

Amaya had always been a good girl. She went to church every Sunday, prayed every night, and tried to live her life according to the Bible. She had always believed that her parents had a happy marriage. But now, everything she thought she knew was turned upside down.

Amaya felt like her world was ending.

She didn't know what to do or who to turn to. She felt like she had lost everything.

She thought about her father. He was a good man, and he had always been there for her. She couldn't imagine her life without him.

She thought about her mother. She had always been a loving and supportive mother, but now she was leaving her family. Sarah didn't understand why.

Amaya felt like she was drowning. She didn't know how to cope with this. She felt like she was losing her faith.

She remembered a verse from the Bible that her father had always told her:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

The Ups and Downs of Faith

Faith is like a fire, it needs to be fed to stay lit.

There are times when our faith is as strong as a roaring bonfire, and there are moments when it’s a mere flicker, struggling to survive the harsh winds of life.

Staying strong in your faith can be a real challenge during difficult times. But remember, even in the Bible, many individuals went through trials that tested their faith—Job, Abraham, David, and even Jesus Himself. The key to perseverance lies in the pages of these sacred texts.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” - James 1:2-3

The Battle Within

Many people believe that questioning God is not acceptable, but I often wonder why.

The Bible describes Job as blameless and upright. He feared God. For a time, Job’s life was one tragedy after another. His animals and servants were killed. The sheep were burned, and the camels were destroyed. A desert wind caused a house to collapse, killing Job’s daughters and sons.

Despite his heartache and disappointment, Job did not sin. However, he reached a point of despair and began questioning his life’s purpose, including why he was born.

Job asked, “How many wrongs and sins have I committed? Show me my offense and my sin. Why do you hide your face from me and consider me your enemy?” - Job 13:23-24

It's natural to question and doubt when faced with challenges. What's essential is not letting these doubts consume you.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” - Proverbs 3:5

The Role of Prayer

Prayer isn’t just about asking; it’s also about listening—remaining silent before God and allowing Him to fill you with hope and direction.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” - Philippians 4:6

The Importance of Community

Isolation can exacerbate your doubts. Surrounding yourself with a supportive faith community can reignite your spirit.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” - Matthew 18:20

Use Scripture as Fuel

The Bible is a gold mine of wisdom, guidance, and narratives that can boost your faith when it dries up.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” - Psalm 119:105

Find Strength in Service

Sometimes, the best way to strengthen your faith is by giving to others, being the hands and feet of Jesus in the world.

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” - Matthew 25:40

Build Spiritual Resilience

Adopting a routine of spiritual practices like fasting, meditating on the scripture, and attending worship services can make a significant difference.

“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” - Hebrews 5:14

The Everlasting Fuel

Your approach is the key to staying motivated when your faith is tested. Whether it's diving into scripture, serving others, being active in your faith community, or dedicating time to prayer, these actions can serve as fuel for your faith, helping you weather even the harshest of spiritual storms.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10
